The Hamptworth Lodge Estate is being sold and there are no current events or opening times at the moment (April 2014)
Although Hamptworth Lodge has the appearance of a Jacobean house it was actually constructed in 1912 for Harold Moffatt a great follower of the Arts and Crafts movement. The house is set in woodlands on the northern edge of the New Forest.
Each room on the guided tour is full of interest with many items coming from estates the family previously owned. Items of interest include; Arts and Crafts furniture made by Harold Moffatt, 17th century furniture, Chinese pottery, Martin brothers pottery, Lalique vases, many 'apprentice pieces', leaded windows with diamond-cut inscriptions and many other unusual items.
Each of the first floor bedrooms are panelled in different woods; pear, cedar, walnut and oak, and most of them have barrel-vaulted ceilings with plaster decoration and stone-arched fireplaces. One room is lined with leather.
The magnificent Great Hall has an unusual roof construction and an organ gallery containing a vast Willis organ. This house is well worth a visit! |
