Hurst Castle
  Description
Situated at the end of the shingle spit, Hurst Castle was built in 1544 by Henry VIII and was one of a chain of Coastal fortresses. Charles I was imprisoned here in 1648 before being taken to London to his trial and execution.

The enormous armoured wings were added when the castle was modernised during in the 19th.

Hurst Castle
Hurst Castle is a good place to watch the Round the Island Race in June. Around 1800 competitors, amateurs and top professionals come from Europe and the USA, as well as all over the UK, to follow the 50 mile course round the Isle of Wight.
